Last week's episode of Monday Night Raw drew the worst ratings in the show's history as it only averaged 1.686 million viewers. The broke the previous record low of 1.78 million set on Christmas Eve 2018. Friday Night SmackDown has also been struggling to prop up viewership as the blue brand recorded its three lowest ratings since moving to FOX in recent weeks.

Yesterday, POST Wrestling were told FOX and the USA Network had requested limited crossover of brands to boost ratings which would be introduced on last night's episode of Raw.

This was indeed the case as WWE Champion Drew McIntyre explained there was a "brand-to-brand invitation" between Raw and SmackDown. The Scottish Psychopath then confirmed he would be fighting SmackDown Superstar King Corbin on next week's episode of Raw.

After the segment, WWE announced Raw and NXT Superstar Charlotte Flair will be appearing on this week's edition of SmackDown.

No further details were provided on the brand-to-brand invitation but fans will be hoping it isn't too similar to the Wild Card rule WWE introduced in 2019. The rule was initially supposed to allow four wrestlers to crossover to another brand but the company quickly ignored its own stipulations and it was scrapped in October 2019.
