Vince McMahon has filed a motion seeking a "limited lifting of the stay" in the lawsuit filed by Janel Grant against himself, WWE, and John Laurinaitis, Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics has revealed.

McMahon's motion comes after Janel Grant filed a pre-action discovery petition with the Superior Court of Connecticut on Tuesday, July 16 against Dr Carlon Colker and Peak Wellness, Inc. seeking medical records related to the lawsuit she filed against McMahon WWE, and John Laurinaitis in January. It was stated in the petition that the records she has received so far are incomplete and inaccurate.

McMahon's new motion has asked for the court to ban Grant from using any materials obtained through the petition in her lawsuit against McMahon, WWE, and John Laurinaitis and the motion has asked the court to declare that Grant may be subject to contempt.

McMahon's lawyer, Jessica Taub Rosenberg, issued the following statement to Wrestlenomics: "Today’s motion is in response to Ms. Grant’s flagrant violation of the federal Stay Order. After telling the Federal Court that she would pause her lawsuit, Ms. Grant immediately violated the Stay Order seeking one-sided discovery for her own benefit. Her lawyer told the media that the information sought in the new Connecticut state action is ‘to assist in our claims in the federal action.’ We are asking the federal Court to ensure that Plaintiff abides by the Court’s order and if she does not that civil contempt and financial sanctions may result."

Grant's lawyer, Ann Callis, responded in a repeat from last week's statement: "We did not violate a federal stay by filing a state action against a non-defendant."

Janel Grant filed a lawsuit against Vince McMahon, WWE, and John Laurinaitis in January 2024. McMahon is accused of sex trafficking, sexual assault, and physical and emotional abuse, while WWE are accused of attempting to cover up the allegations against McMahon. John Laurinaitis is accused of sexual assault. The lawsuit also argues the NDA she signed with Vince McMahon is unenforceable, citing the Speak Out Act and the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act of 2000.

All parties agreed to pause the lawsuit in June following a request from the United States Department of Justice. Attorneys for the Southern District of New York are still investigating allegations of sex trafficking and sexual misconduct against Vince McMahon dating back to 1986, which is why the request to pause the lawsuit was made. The case is currently on hold until December 11.
