Not only was Seth Rollins originally scheduled to win the WWE Championship at Day 1 on January 1st, The Architect was set to hold the gold until at least WrestleMania 38.

It emerged earlier this week that Rollins was set to win the WWE Title at Day 1 in a Fatal 4-Way also featuring then-champion Big E, Bobby Lashley and Kevin Owens. Brock Lesnar ultimately captured the gold, though, after his Universal Title match with Roman Reigns was scrapped and The Beast was added to the WWE Championship match to make it a Fatal 5-Way instead.

In an update, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported Rollins would have gone on to defend the WWE Title at WrestleMania 38, likely against the winner of the Royal Rumble. Who his challenger would have been is unknown, but Meltzer noted it likely would have been Big E with Kevin Owens and Bobby Lashley as other possibilities.

Future plans for the WWE Title beyond that Lesnar will defend the championship against Bobby Lashley at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view remain unknown, although reports have noted The Beast Incarnate is still scheduled to face Universal Champion Roman Reigns at WrestleMania.
