WWE's Jeff Hardy Wanted The Hardy Boyz To Face The Usos In A Penitentiary
Cinematic match in an old prison
Dec 1, 2021
Among his many accomplishments, Jeff Hardy helped cinematic wrestling rise in popularity back in 2016 when he faced brother Matt in The Final Deletion while both men were a part of TNA.
Jeff only had a limited role in Matt's WWE cinematic match against Bray Wyatt, but The Charismatic Enigma wishes The Hardy Boyz could have faced The Usos in a pre-taped match inside a penitentiary.
"In a sense I think [The Final Deletion inspired The Boneyard Match from WrestleMania 36], yeah. Because, even watching that match because of the pandemic, you kind of had to think outside the box, be unique. Yeah, it reminded me a lot of The Final Deletion, Delete Or Decay, all those cinematic matches we did but yeah, I still love those matches," Hardy said on Broken Skull Sessions.
"I always had this dream before Matt left the WWE to have a match with The Usos in some old, broken-down, locked up penitentiary, because the Uso Penitentiary is their thing and I wanted to go in there and have some kind of wacky cinematic matches in an old prison. But we never got to do this."
While they didn't get to face off in a cinematic match, The Hardy Boyz did clash with The Usos in April 2019, defeating Jimmy and Jey to win the SmackDown Tag Team Championship.
They would be forced to relinquish the title belts only a couple of weeks later, though, following an injury to Jeff and Matt had left WWE by the time the younger Hardy returned to the ring.
The Hardy Boyz have since expressed an interest in reforming their tag team for one last run, although Jeff remains under contract with WWE until 2022.
