WWE Reportedly Planning To Hold SummerSlam 2022 In The UK

Speculation of a major WWE event emanating from the United Kingdom next year have circulated in the last couple of days, and a new report suggests the UK is set to play host to one of the promotion's biggest pay-per-views in 2022.

Alex McCarthy of TalkSPORT is reporting that WWE is planning to host SummerSlam 2022 in the UK, in what would be the year that marks the 30th anniversary of the iconic SummerSlam 1992 event at Wembley Stadium.

The Principality Stadium in Cardiff is considered the front-runner to hold the major WWE pay-per-view, with the company reportedly exploring the possibility of hosting a show in the Wales capital for a number of months.

The retractable roof at the Principality Stadium is an attractive feature for WWE. The venue, primarily used for football and rugby, can usually hold 74,500 people, but 78,000 people were in attendance when Anthony Joshua fought Carlos Takam back in 2017.

The report goes on to say that WWE held a number of meetings about plans for a major UK event during the four-night overseas tour last week, with Scottish wrestler and former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre involved in those discussions.

Sources have told talkSPORT that although the Principality Stadium is WWE’s preferred venue for SummerSlam 2022, nothing has been finalised and it is even possible that WWE will hold a stadium show in the UK that isn’t SummerSlam.
