If you’ve been watching Friday Night SmackDown for the last two weeks, you might be under the impression that WWE has turned AJ Styles heel, or are at least in the process of making him a bad guy.

Styles made his long-awaited return to WWE programming last week, taking out members of The Bloodline before shocking fans by attacking LA Knight, who is beloved by the WWE Universe. On last night’s SmackDown, a more brooding and miserable Styles took to the mic, complaining about how Knight jumped the line when Styles was injured. He noted that he didn’t care if it were Knight or Randy Orton in his way - he wanted a shot at Roman Reigns and the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.

The Phenomenal One still had his sights set on the heel champion Roman Reigns, and did take on Solo Sikoa in the main event, wrestling more as the babyface, but with his darkened attire, shunning his friends in the O.C., and targeting Knight, all signs point towards a turn. According to a report from Fightful Select however, WWE are not necessarily looking to turn him heel.

The report states that sources revealed that Styles’ attack on Knight is meant to be something that is justified, and it is up to fans to decide whether to cheer for Styles or not, with him set to be booked more as a tweener than a heel going forwards. Of course, plans can always change, and the fans seemed to be more on the side of booing Styles.
