WWE Files To Trademark 'Zack Ryder', 'Ezekiel Jackson' & More

WWE has filed a series of trademarks for the names of wrestlers, some of which no longer work for the company.

Recent trademark filings show that WWE went to trademark 'Drew McIntyre' and 'Dolph Ziggler', two main roster veterans who are still with the company. They have also filed to trademark 'Zack Ryder' and 'Ezekiel Jackson'.

Ryder was released in 2020 and has been active on the independent scene since, as well as wrestling for companies like IMPACT and the NWA (as Matt Cardona).

Cardona recently attempted to trademark the Ryder name himself, in order to have a 'Ryder vs. Cardona' cinematic match. He dropped the claim after receiving opposition from WWE, noting that they would win if the case ever went to court.

There has been intense speculation that Cardona could soon return to WWE, with recent reports suggesting that he has finished up with IMPACT.

Jackson, meanwhile, performed for WWE between 2008 and 2014. He subsequently wrestled for Lucha Underground (as Big Ryck), before retiring in October 2015. The former Intercontinental Champion has since worked as a personal trainer.
