On the final major stop on the road to WrestleMania, WWE held one of their most highly-anticipated pay-per-views in several years as hometown hero Sami Zayn challenged Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at Elimination Chamber in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on Saturday, February 18. The show also featured two Elimination Chamber matches, the third match between Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley, and the continuation of the long-running feud between Edge and Judgment Day.

Asuka def. Carmella, Raquel Rodriguez, Natalya, Liv Morgan, & Nikki Cross - Elimination Chamber Match for a Raw Women's Title shot at WrestleMania 39

WWE opted to open the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view with one of the namesake matches as six women clashed for the right to challenge Bianca Belair for the Raw Women's Championship at WrestleMania 39.

The match opened with Liv Morgan and Natalya, during which Morgan repeatedly forced Natalya between the chain links. Raquel Rodriguez then entered the match next, with the crowd giving the talents in the ring the first big reaction after Natalya caught Raquel with a Sunset Flip while the former NXT Women's Champion had Liv in her arms. Nikki Cross entered fourth, having been agitated in her pod throughout the contest. The former Almost Superhero hit the first big spot of the match, taking out her fellow competitors with a Crossbody from the top of the pod.

Out fifth was Carmella and she proceeded to wind up Asuka before she placed herself back in a pod after Raquel Rodriguez sent Nikki Cross through a different pod inside the chamber. That proved to be enough to score the first elimination as Rodriguez pinned Cross. Rodriguez was then almost eliminated moments later as Liv Morgan caught her with an Avalanche Sunset Flip from the top of a pod.

A huge pop for Asuka followed as The Empress of Tomorrow was the final entrant in the Elimination Chamber. Liv Morgan was then eliminated after Natalya locked in the Sharpshooter and Asuka applied an Octopus. Liv wouldn't tap out, instead passing out before the referee ruled she could not continue. Natalya then looked to eliminate Asuka with a Sharpshooter but Carmella caught The Queen of Harts with a Superkick for the 1-2-3 to send her to the back.

This brought the match down to Asuka, Raquel Rodriguez, and Carmella. Asuka and Carmella quickly combined, though, to eliminate Rodriguez and Carmella looked to have the match won after she decked Asuka with a Superkick but the former Raw Women's Champion managed to kick out.

Carmella went for a second Superkick but Asuka blocked it and after an exchange of pins, Asuka applied a submission and the former Miss Money in the Bank had no choice but to submit.

Bobby Lashley def. Brock Lesnar by DQ

In the second bout of the night, Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley squared off in their third match. The series stood at one win apiece, with Lashley having defeated Lesnar for the WWE Championship at Royal Rumble 2022 before Brock picked up a win over Lashley at Crown Jewel in November.

Brock dominated the opening moments, manhandling his opponent until Lashley fired back with two Spears. The All Mighty then looked to apply the Hurt Lock but Lesnar fought free before he delivered an F5. Lesnar went for the win but Lashley managed to kick out. Lesnar hit another F5 but Lashley kicked out again!

The crowd in Montreal demanded Lesnar hit a third F5 but Lashley escaped on this occasion to hit a third Spear. Lashley managed to apply the Hurt Lock this time. Brock tried to power out but couldn't manage to break free so he caught Lashley with a kick to the nether regions to end the match by DQ.

After the official called for the bell, Lesnar took him out with an F5. The Beast then caught Lashley with a fourth F5 before he kicked his opponent out of the ring and put him through the announce table with an F5. He then decked the referee with an F5 on the outside for good measure.

A fourth match between the pair, possibly at WrestleMania 39, looks to be on the cards. Bray Wyatt challenged the winner to a match at WrestleMania. How that will enter the mix is unknown.

The first WrestleMania 39 parody trailer then aired as Seth Rollins danced down the stairs in Joker make-up before he was stopped by "The Man" Becky Lynch, who questioned what her husband was doing in a Batman-esque gruff voice. She then told Rollins she was going to the Man Cave, something Rollins didn't know they had.

Edge & Beth Phoenix def. Finn Balor & Rhea Ripley

The latest chapter in the feud between Edge and his former Judgment Day faction was written as The Rated-R Superstar and Beth Phoenix clashed with Finn Balor and Rhea Ripley.

After the crowd serenaded Edge and Phoenix with Alter Bridge's Metalingus, the audience made their feelings known about Dominik Mysterio, chanting "F*ck you Dominik." Mysterio answered by interfering in the match, stopping Beth Phoenix from climbing to the top turnbuckle. Edge chased Dominik to the back but Ex-Con Dom eventually made his way back to ringside.

The interference led to a long period of dominance for Judgment Day, a run which included Finn Balor crawling under the ring to pull Edge from the apron so Phoenix couldn't reach her husband for the hot tag. The Glamazon managed to make the hot tag soon after but Judgment Day looked to have the match won after Dominik distracted the referee and Rhea decked Edge with a brass knuckles shot. Ripley laid Balor over Edge for the cover and the spot called for Phoenix to break up the pin but she was half a second slow so Edge had to kick out.

Later, Rhea Ripley tried to take Beth Phoenix out with a Con-Chair-To on the steel steps but Phoenix escaped and decked her opponent with a Glam Slam on the floor. Edge hit an Edgecution on Balor back in the ring but instead of following up, he hit a Suicide Dive on Dominik Mysterio. Balor fired back with a Slingblade when Edge re-entered the ring and The Prince went for his Shotgun Dropkick, only to eat a Spear from Edge.

The WWE Hall of Famers then combined to hit a Big Rig, paying homage to their close friends FTR, for the victory.

Austin Theory (c) def. Seth Rollins, Montez Ford, Damian Priest, Johnny Gargano, and Bronson Reed - Elimination Chamber Match for the United States Championship

The second Elimination Chamber Match of the night took place next for the United States Championship. The match started with Seth Rollins and Johnny Gargano before United States Champion Austin Theory entered the match third. Theory offered to reform The Way with Johnny Gargano but Johnny Wrestling simply Superkicked his former protege before he and Rollins combined to beat down Theory inside a pod.

Damian Priest entered the match as the fourth participant and handed Theory some more punishment, hitting him with a Senton Bomb on the chamber floor. Bronson Reed entered fifth and used his power to good advantage, taking out Gargano and Rollins with a Double Samoan Drop before the former JONAH sandwiched Damian Priest between himself and a pod.

Bronson Reed then waited for Montez Ford's pod to open and the former Raw Tag Team Champion ran wild on Reed before he went for a People's Elbow on Theory, only to be squashed by Reed. Theory impressed moments later as he hoisted Reed up but the former leader of TMDK managed to escape. Reed was then almost eliminated following a Poisonrana from Gargano that saw Bronson land right on the top of his head!

Montez Ford then took out everyone in the match, after climbing up the chamber and dropping himself from the roof to the floor below. Bronson Reed was eliminated moments later following One Final Beat from Gargano, a Stomp from Rollins, and a Frog Splash from Ford. Another huge move followed as Gargano caught Rollins with a Hurricanrana from the top of the pod, sending the former Universal Champion crashing onto Ford and Theory below on the chamber floor.

Johnny Gargano was the next man eliminated, following a Razor's Edge from Damian Priest. The Archer of Infamy was sent packing soon after following a Blockbuster from Montez Ford. The Street Profits member took out everyone soon after with dives on the outside before he took out Austin Theory in the ring with a Rock Bottom. Ford then went for a Frog Splash but Theory got his knees up before Rollins caught Montez with a Stomp on the chamber floor. Theory then pinned Ford to eliminate him from the match.

Ford was unable to leave the chamber and he received medical attention to leave the chamber door wide open. Seth Rollins looked to have the match won as he hit a Pedigree on Theory and set up for the Stomp, only for Logan Paul to run through the open chamber door and take out the man he eliminated from the Royal Rumble with a Stomp. Theory took advantage with the A-Town-Down to win the United States Championship.

Roman Reigns (c) def. Sami Zayn - Undisputed WWE Universal Championship

In a match that won't be forgotten for a long time, Roman Reigns defended the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against hometown hero and former Bloodline member Sami Zayn in the main event of Elimination Chamber.

After a raucous reaction on Friday Night SmackDown, the crowd response to Sami Zayn was visceral as The Underdog from the Underground made his way to the ring, being serenaded with "Ole!" chants once the match got underway, paying tribute to Sami Zayn's very good friend El Generico.

Neither man touched for the first few minutes as they simply took in the atmosphere in Montreal. The two competitors eventually locked up as the action started out extremely slowly and they exchanged holds until the match exploded into life as Zayn decked Reigns with a Senton over the top rope.

Zayn registered a two count before Roman Reigns took control, mocking Zayn as he beat down his former family member. The Reigns beat down was reminiscent of Brock Lesnar's demolition of Eddie Guerrero at No Way Out 2004, but would we get the fairy tale ending that happened 18 years ago?

After several minutes, Zayn fired back with a Leapfrog and Clothesline to flatten Reigns and he followed up with some more offence before kissing his wife. That kiss proved costly as Reigns chopped down Zayn on the top turnbuckle with an uppercut but The Underdog from the Underground fired back with a Sunset Flip Powerbomb for a near fall.

Reigns gained the upper hand once again and set up for the Superman Punch. Zayn blocked it, though, and hit an Exploder into the corner before he went for the Helluva Kick, only to eat a Superman Punch from the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. Reigns went for the Spear but missed and Zayn scored a close near fall with a roll-up before he connected with another Exploder in the corner. Zayn then connected with a Superman Punch before the Helluva Kick! The fans in Montreal shouted "Three!" but Reigns managed to get his shoulder up at 2.9!

Zayn set up for the Helluva Kick again but Reigns rolled out to the ring. Sami went for his Tornado DDT through the bottom turnbuckle but Reigns fired back with an uppercut. Reigns then went for a Spear through the barricade but Zayn sidestepped it which caused Reigns to crash and burn. Zayn then hit a Blue Thunder Bomb but Reigns got his shoulder up again, much to the dismay of everyone in Montreal except for Reigns and Paul Heyman.

The typical Roman Reigns title match ref bump followed next just before Sami Zayn hit the Helluva Kick and had the championship won, only for the referee to be positively unconscious. Jimmy Uso, despite being told to stay at home, then interfered in the match, taking out Zayn with multiple Superkicks and an Uso Splash. A new referee suddenly appeared to count the pin for Reigns (of course) but Zayn kicked out!

Reigns proceeded to scream insults at Zayn once the action got underway again and Sami decked Jimmy Uso with a Helluva Kick which allowed Reigns to hit a Spear. That looked to be it but Sami kicked out to a huge reaction in his hometown. Reigns proceeded to slap an exhausted Zayn but Sami fired back with a huge slap of his own. Reigns went for a Superman Punch but only caught the second official before Zayn connected with another Superman Punch of his own to Reigns.

With both officials down and out, Paul Heyman passed a steel chair to Roman Reigns and Roman was about to use it until Jey Uso stood in his cousin's way. Jey Uso was given a choice by Reigns as The Tribal Chief handed Jey the steel chair, calling back to the Royal Rumble. Unlike Zayn, though, Jey didn't swing the chair and Reigns took it back before he pushed Jey in the face. Zayn tried to take advantage but he accidentally took out Jey with a Spear. Roman then battered Zayn with the chair before he connected with a Spear as the first official miraculously recovered to count the 1-2-3.

Do miracles come true? Yes, just not in Montreal.

After the match, Jimmy Uso looked to beat down Zayn until Kevin Owens made his return and took out Roman Reigns and Jimmy with Stunners. A Pop-Up Powerbomb then sent Jimmy crashing through the announce table before Owens looked set to deck Reigns with a steel chair, only for KO to be attacked from behind by Paul Heyman. Heyman then ate a Stunner for his trouble before KO stepped aside so Sami Zayn could take out Reigns with a Helluva Kick. KO and Sami did not reconcile as KO headed to the back and allowed his longtime friend/rival to soak up the adulation of the fans in Montreal.

Sami Zayn didn't win at Elimination Chamber but he ended the night standing tall. Will WWE go one step further and book Zayn in the main event of WrestleMania 39? That decision ultimately lies with Triple H with input from Vince McMahon.
