WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H recently spoke to ESPN about the shifting nature of plans in wrestling. It was an especially pertinent question, given the tumultuous build to WrestleMania 40, which he looks to have corralled into a hugely-anticipated pair of match-ups.

Night one (April 6) will be headlined by a tag match pitting Roman Reigns and The Rock against Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins, while Reigns and Rhodes will square off on night two (April 7) for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.

This follows a groundswell of fan support for Cody, who initially appeared to have been ousted from a title match in favour of the returning Rock. WWE instead appear to have rolled with the punches, beginning with an explosive press conference in Las Vegas which saw The Rock definitively turn heel, slapping Rhodes across the face. In changing the card, the build-up has been injected with a great deal of extra hype in the process. On this topic, Triple H explained:

"Now it's a different time, and the way I do things is slightly different. [...] I learned from being here [as an active wrestler] but there were things along the way that I always thought I would do differently. In this time now, I get to make those calls and with a large team of people. Whether people will want to believe it or not, I think we were sort of looking at this as: 'here's where we're going to go to get this started, and it has the opportunity of going this way or that way.'

"We always have to call audibles every single week. Everything you do is dependent on reactions. That's what we do as an industry. [...] The beautiful thing with this group, and with Cody and Roman and Rock especially, everybody's got their ear to the ground. [...] And then we all just get together and figure the s*** out."
