Sheamus Wants WWE To Bring Back The Winged Eagle, Classic Intercontinental Title
Two classic belts back on TV if it was up to Sheamus
Jan 25, 2022
The WWE and Intercontinental Championships have gone through several designs during their long histories, but some variations of the belts hold a special place in people's hearts, particularly the winged eagle WWE Title used from 1988 to 1998 and the classic Intercontinental Title held by the likes of Randy Savage and Mr. Perfect.
One fan of both belts is Sheamus and The Celtic Warrior revealed while speaking to Graham "GSM" Matthews that lots of his fellow WWE Superstars would be happy if the company brought back the classic designs.
"Yeah of course," Sheamus said about wanting to make the Intercontinental Title green. "I also love the old school one, not the white strap thing that was brought back. But the original one that Savage wore and Steamboat wore, Bret Hart, do you know what I mean? I think that's just an iconic, and classic title. I understand the way WWE wants to keep changing the looks of the title and keep things fresh. But I still think there's a lot of room for nostalgia and a classic look and a classic title.
"I feel like that title, especially the one with the winged eagle, I feel like those two titles especially are timeless, they're classic. If they brought them back, that version, I think a lot of people would be happy with it, especially a lot of the talent. Maybe I'm just being nostalgic too, that's really how I got introduced to WWE. I still feel like it would be cool to bring them back."
Sheamus has won pretty much everything there is to win in WWE but the 43-year-old has yet to hold the Intercontinental Title. If he wins it, maybe the classic design will return.
