Shane Helms Remembers Asking Undertaker And Kane's Permission To Do The Chokeslam

In his time as The Hurricane, Shane Helms demonstrated the potential of his "Hurri-powers" through a move generally reserved for larger competitors: a chokeslam.

Helms began doing the move around the dawn of the Ruthless Aggression era, after Vince McMahon gave it as the finish to a Cruiserweight title match that The Hurricane was supposed to win. But even though McMahon gave the order, Helms admitted in an interview with Chris Van Vliet that he wanted the blessing of those who regularly used the chokeslam first.

“The match was Tajiri, Billy Kidman and me. One of them was the champion and I walked out as champion," Helms remembers. "The finish was a chokeslam from Hurricane and it came from Vince. I never hit it before. I just came from a time where you don’t steal people’s finishers, especially that’s on the show.

"Out of respect, I wanted to go to The Undertaker. I asked him about it. He didn’t give a s**t. I went to Kane, same thing. Big Show wasn’t there that day, but when I caught up with him, I explained my situation and he didn’t care. Every one of those guys were super cool about it."
