Seth Rollins dropped the World Heavyweight Championship to Drew McIntyre at WWE WrestleMania 40 night two, with the workhorse of WWE emphatically defeated after working twice in two nights.

Many expected Rollins to drop the belt at Mania, with ‘The Messiah’ having embarked on a gruelling defence-laden 316-day run as champion, working through injuries during his reign.

A report from Dave Meltzer on F4WOnline indicated that Rollins is set to take time off after WrestleMania, with it hoped that Rollins will be back on the road in about four weeks.

Rollins took time off from in-ring competition in early 2024 after tearing his MCL and partially tearing his meniscus in a title defence against Jinder Mahal on January 15. Whilst Rollins was kept out of the ring he still remained a presence across WWE programming, leading up to his WrestleMania Night One main event match with Cody Rhodes against Roman Reigns and The Rock, whilst also building to his night two championship match against Drew McIntyre, never mind his dealings with CM Punk.

The multi-time world champion’s WWE contract is set to expire in June, but it is expected that Rollins will re-sign with the organisation.
