A scholarship has been launched in honour of Darren Drozdov, who passed away on June 30 at the age of 54. The family of the former WWE star have set up the scholarship in his honour and ask for donations be made to it in lieu of flowers or other donations.

Called the Darren Drozdov Scholarship Fund, it will benefit student athletes at his Oakcrest High School alma mater in Mays Landing, New Jersey. ESPN's Adam Schefter announced the news via Twitter.

Prior to getting into the wrestling business, Drozdov spent three seasons in the NFL playing with the New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles and Denver Broncos. Droz decided to try his hand at professional wrestling in 1997 and had a handful of matches in ECW before joining WWE. Introduced as 'Puke' (due to his ability to regurgitate on command), Drozdov's first role was as the third member of the Legion of Doom. After his split from the LOD, Droz's persona was changed and he formed a misfit tag team with Prince Albert.

Drozdov's career tragically came to an end when he suffered a neck injury while wrestling D'Lo brown at the October 5, 1999 SmackDown taping. He continued to work for WWE as a writer and columnist for both WWE's website and magazines in the years following the accident.
