Whilst predominantly a never-say-die babyface for the majority of his singles career, Bret Hart flipped everything on it’s head in 1997 during his feud with ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin.

Bitter, p****d off, and disgusted by how Austin was ruining the WWE with the American fans cheering him on, Bret and The Hart Foundation found themselves in a unique situation, where they were the biggest heels in the USA, but beloved babyfaces everywhere else. And during a piece on Sportsnet on Bret’s career, current WWE Superstar Sami Zayn has admitted he’d like to recreate it:

“I would love to do a more modernised version, a bit more of an intellectual approach, a bit more of a factual approach to what Bret did in 1997 because I thought it was revolutionary. It’s never been done before and it’s never been done since. Global hero, despised in one country like that. It was revolutionary, we all remember it, we all rave about it to this day.”
