On the December 18th episode of NXT, Rhea Ripley ended 2019 by capturing the NXT Women's Championship from Shayna Baszler. On last night's episode, Ripley made her first appearance of 2020 as she basked in the glory of her title victory.

Ripley was not able to bask for too long as she was quickly interrupted by NXT UK Superstar Toni Storm. Storm had a trilogy of matches with Ripley when they were both in NXT UK. The Australian defeated the former Stardom star to become the inaugural NXT UK Women's champion on November 28th 2018. The two then faced off in a rematch for the title at NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool, in which Toni emerged victorious.

Storm then put an exclamation point on their rivalry during Royal Rumble Axxess Weekend as she defeated Ripley again to retain her Championship.

After the interruption, Storm reminded Ripley of her previous victories against her and proceeded to declare that she would win back the NXT UK Women's Championship on Sunday and go on to face Ripley at Worlds Collide for the NXT Women's title. Keen to exact revenge for her two losses, the NXT Women's champion accepted her challenge.

With that, Rhea Ripley vs. Toni Storm for the NXT Women's title was booked for Worlds Collide on January 25th at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
