Further details about WWE's WrestleMania 38 plans for Cody Rhodes have been revealed.

Following his departure from All Elite Wrestling in mid-February, Cody initially looked set to sign with WWE but his return has become more and more uncertain in recent weeks, with the ball said to be in The American Nightmare's court.

Had negotiations with Rhodes gone smoothly, WWE reportedly planned to debut the three-time TNT Champion at the March 14 edition of Monday Night Raw in Jacksonville, Florida - a city with close connections to AEW.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE would have then built to a WrestleMania 38 match between Rhodes and former WWE Champion Seth Rollins.

As negotiations with Rhodes have "hit a snag", though, WWE creative were told this week to "hold off" on working on plans for a Rhodes vs. Rollins match until The American Nightmare signs with the company.

Why exactly Rhodes hasn't signed with WWE yet is currently unknown but the company believe Cody is either looking to secure a better deal or he could be doing a Brian Pillman.
