Report: WWE Looking To Establish Day 1 As A Major Show With Roman Reigns Vs. Brock Lesnar Match
Big plans

WWE aren't planning to wait until late January to hold their first pay-per-view of 2022 and the company will kick off the new year with Day 1 on January 1 from Atlanta's State Farm Arena.
WWE's pay-per-view calendar currently features five major shows in Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, Money In The Bank, SummerSlam and Survivor Series and the company is seemingly looking to add a sixth event to the mix with Dave Meltzer reporting on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE want to make Day 1 one of the biggest shows of the year.
WWE added Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar - arguably the biggest match WWE can book at the moment - to the card in the hopes of establishing Day 1 as a marquee event, according to Meltzer, and the belief within the company is that Royal Rumble didn't need such a big title match.
"To establish this (Day 1) as a traditional big show, and the idea is to make this one of the biggest shows of the year, you need to establish it and Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns is the strongest match they've got. So that's the match they chose to establish it. The feeling is Royal Rumble didn't need it," Meltzer said.
As previously noted, the Reigns-Lesnar feud is set to continue beyond Day 1 and Meltzer reported that another meeting between the rivals is planned for WrestleMania 38.
"It is not going to be the last Roman Reigns-Brock Lesnar match. Obviously, they are still planned for WrestleMania," he added.
Day 1 will air from Atlanta's State Farm Arena on January 1, 2022. Check out the announced card below:
