Report: WWE Is "Pretty Negative" About CM Punk Returning To The Ring

Back in November, CM Punk returned to the WWE fold as he debuted as an analyst on WWE Backstage. This marked the first time The Voice Of The Voiceless had spoken about the company since he left WWE after the Royal Rumble in 2014.

This led many to wonder if Punk would return to the squared circle, and former Universal Champion Seth Rollins quickly challenged The Straight Edge Superstar to a match. Punk has no interest in facing Rollins, however, but he did admit last week that if he was going to return to the ring, it would only be to face John Cena, Rey Mysterio, Daniel Bryan or New Japan Pro-Wrestling star Will Ospreay.

Fans could be waiting a long time before Punk ever steps inside a WWE ring, as Dave Meltzer revealed on Wrestling Observer Radio that the company is "pretty negative" about the idea of the former WWE Champion wrestling again. Meltzer explained the company still harbour "a lot of bitterness" towards Punk and feel like they already have enough part time stars in The Undertaker, Edge and Goldberg that they don't see a reason to entice The Best In The World to wrestle again.

Meltzer said: "I do know that WWE is pretty negative on the idea of Punk wrestling, more than I thought they would be…The idea is between Bill Goldberg and Edge and Undertaker, people like that, they've got their fair share of guys like that. There's a lot of bitterness, apparently there's more bitterness on the WWE side right now than on the Punk side."
