Report: WWE Inviting More Indy Wrestlers To Tryouts
More indy wrestlers to WWE?
Jul 8, 2022
A WWE doctrine is being loosened.
Since the NXT revamp in September of 2021, WWE have largely moved away from scouting and signing independent wrestlers and the company have instead focused their attention on recruiting athletes with little to no experience who can be trained to perform like a WWE talent.
This has resulted in WWE utilising their NIL programme and they have continued to hold tryouts, although very few independent wrestlers have been invited to take part with one of the few exceptions being Roxanne Perez, who has since signed with WWE.
WWE's aversion to independent wrestlers has seemingly lessened, however, and Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that while WWE are still aiming to recruit "good looking college or other athletes and train them to be wrestlers", more indy talents have been contacted about the company's tryouts over SummerSlam week in Nashville.
Which talents WWE have contacted is currently unknown but Meltzer's report suggests the organisation are looking to find a middle ground between signing indy wrestlers and athletes.
