Report: WWE Changes SmackDown Plans Following Bray Wyatt's Passing
A tribute show to Bray Wyatt is planned for WWE SmackDown
Aug 25, 2023
WWE's Windham Rotunda (AKA Bray Wyatt) tragically passed away on Thursday, August 24 at 36 years old following a heart attack. Wyatt had been off WWE TV since March after he contracted COVID-19, which exacerbated a heart issue he was dealing with.
Tributes from across the professional wrestling world have poured in for Wyatt since his passing and tonight's episode of Friday Night SmackDown will be a tribute show for the former Universal Champion, according to Better Wrestling Experience. It was noted that WWE's original plans for the show had been scrapped, with everyone's focus within the company being on Rotunda's family.
Originally advertised for SmackDown was IYO SKY vs. Zelina Vega for the WWE Women's Title, the return of Jimmy Uso, and Rey Mysterio vs. Grayson Waller. It is unknown at this time what WWE has planned for the Wyatt tribute show.
Tonight's SmackDown will be broadcast from the KFC YUM! Center in Louisville, Kentucky. Alongside the reported tribute show, WWE will donate all net proceeds from the sale of Bray Wyatt merchandise to Windham Rotunda's family.
