Report: WWE Bringing Back King Of The Ring Later This Year

In addition to plans for a "Queen of the Ring" tournament later this year, WWE is also reportedly reviving its King of the Ring tournament, according to a report from Andrew Zarian of Mat Men.

Zarian states that the tournament is returning in October, with the finals taking place during the Saudi Arabia event that is reportedly scheduled for Thursday, October 21. The Queen of the Ring finals is also tentatively set for that date.

The Saudi Arabia card will be the first time WWE has run in the country since February 2020, shortly before the pandemic.

The King of the Ring has been used by WWE off and on since the mid-eighties. Originally a house show attraction for the New England area, WWE originally held the King of the Ring from 1985 through 1991 (save for 1990). Beginning in 1993, the event became an annual pay-per-view staple, held every June through 2002.

Since then, the tournament has been used infrequently. It was last employed in 2019, with Baron Corbin defeating Chad Gable in the finals.
