With the Royal Rumble around the corner, speculation has began to build concerning a Cody Rhodes WWE return, with many hoping the ‘American Nightmare’ will return to WWE as the road to WrestleMania unfolds.

Rhodes has been out of action since tearing his pectoral muscle in the summer, and according to a report from Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer, tentative plans are in the works for Rhodes’ return, with Meltzer suggesting that WWE could run back Rhodes vs. Seth Rollins.

The two feuded from Rhodes’ return at WrestleMania 38 in early 2022, with Cody winning the feud inside Hell in a Cell in June, with his entire pectoral region heavily discoloured due to his injury. Rollins attacked Rhodes the next night to write him off WWE TV.

There are no reports on if this potential feud will have any bearing on Rollins’ current feud with US Champion Austin Theory, with Rollins having ostensibly turned face during his battles with Theory. A Rollins vs. Rhodes return feud would likely position Rhodes as the face of the situation, due in part to the manner in which he triumphed at Hell in a Cell.

Popular fan speculation is that Rhodes could win the Royal Rumble outright, setting up an Undisputed WWE Universal Championship clash with Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39.
