There could potentially be some big plans for Cody Rhodes upon his eventual return from injury, according to a new report.

Dave Meltzer wrote in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that The American Nightmare could be on the receiving end of something similar to the promotion Triple H received ahead of his return from a torn quadriceps muscle in early 2002.

The Game famously went down with the injury during the main event of the May 21, 2001, episode of Raw, returning in the build-up to the 2002 Royal Rumble. His return was heavily hyped with inspirational video packages set to U2's Beautiful Day.

Triple H subsequently won the Royal Rumble match and then dethroned WWE Undisputed Champion Chris Jericho in the main event of WrestleMania X8.

Meltzer noted that Cody's surgery was filmed so that footage of it could be used for future promotional packages. He also noted that while Rhodes is slated to be out of action for around nine months, most (including Cody) expect it to be less.

The idea is that his return around the time of the 2023 Royal Rumble could be a selling point for that event and part of a major push.
