Report: Reason The Usos Are Defending The Undisputed WWE Tag Team Titles Separately Revealed
The Usos have been defending their Undisputed Tag Titles as separate championships
Jan 20, 2023
Since defeating RK-Bro for the WWE Raw Tag Team Championships, The Usos have dominated the tag division as the undisputed tag champions, having held the SmackDown tag belts since 2021.
However, The Usos have recently started defending the titles as separate championships once more, with Dave Meltzer reporting in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that it is a Triple H call, designed to give fans the impression that The Usos could lose one set whilst keeping the other.
Meltzer noted that the hope is that fans will buy into the idea that it’s more likely that the titles could switch hands rather than just stay firmly around the champs’ waists.
Following the Invasion and original brand split in 2002, WWE introduced two sets of tag titles to be defended on Raw and SmackDown, before later unifying the titles in 2009.
The titles were once again split in 2016, with Heath Slater and Rhino the inaugural holders of the SmackDown Tag Team Championships, whilst The New Day’s WWE Tag Team Titles were rebranded as the Raw Tag Team Titles.
