In recent weeks, WWE has focussed more on talents that many believe have been underutilised in the company. Apollo Crews was recently moved to Monday Night Raw and almost captured the United States Championship before a storyline injury put him out of action, and Ricochet and Cedric Alexander have been featured more on WWE TV as a tag team, having amassed a 3-3 record.

On this week's episode of Raw, they were defeated by MVP's new project Shane Thorne and Brendan Vink. Ricochet and Alexander's defeat was seen as somewhat of a surprise, but Mike Johnson has provided an explanation on PWInsider Elite Audio.

Johnson revealed WWE sees Brendan Vink as "a long-term project" and the company is planning to push him in a similar fashion to Braun Strowman when he was a member of the Wyatt Family. Johnson also noted that Vink has been a project in developmental for some time which is why he had been racking up wins in EVOLVE until the coronavirus pandemic started.

Johnson said: "Brendan Vink has been a project in the developmental territory for some time. EVOLVE had him where they were using him to build him up. He would have been given a bigger push in EVOLVE if they hadn’t been shut down."

He later added: "One person described it to me that it was kinda like when Braun Strowman was part of the Wyatt Family when Vince McMahon saw him as a long-term project to build for the future. That's kinda where they are with Brendan Vink to build him as a long-term project."
