Report: Mayor Of Tampa And City Officials Meeting Tomorrow To Discuss Cancelling Major Events, Could Affect WWE WrestleMania 36
Could The Showcase Of The Immortals Be Cancelled...
Mar 11, 2020
The coronavirus outbreak has had a profound effect on sports and the professional wrestling world. Numerous Japanese promotions have been forced to cancel shows for much of March, and last night's Champions League match between Valencia and Atalanta had to be played behind closed doors.
While the virus has not affected wrestling in the United States as of yet, WWE did release a statement last week confirming WrestleMania 36 would be going ahead. They wrote: "The health and safety of our fans, performers and employees are our top priorities and we are monitoring the situation closely with our partners and government officials in Tampa Bay. We remain committed to hosting WrestleMania at Raymond James Stadium on Sunday, April 5, and like other entertainment properties in the U.S., there are currently no plans to cancel or postpone our upcoming events."
WWE could still be forced into cancelling The Showcase Of The Immortals, however, as Ryan Bass at CBS Tampa reported that the Mayor of Tampa Jane Castor and city officials will meet tomorrow to discuss whether or not they should cancel or postpone major events because of the coronavirus.
He wrote on Twitter: "@CityofTampa and @JaneCastor will meet on Thursday to discuss canceling or postponing "major" events due to #Coronavirus. This weekend's River O'Green fest isn't likely to be cancelled."
