WWE has often presented holiday-themed episodes of Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown in previous years. Raw was even broadcast live on Christmas Day in 2017 and fans at the Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois witnessed John Cena defeat Elias, Braun Strowman vanquish The Miztourage in a Secret Santa Match and Seth Rollins & Jason Jordan capture the Raw Tag Team Title from The Bar in the main event.

Christmas Day falls on a Friday this year, meaning there will be a Christmas edition of Friday Night SmackDown. According to Inside The Ropes, the show won't be live in 2020 and talent aren't expected to travel to Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida and work on December 25.

Inside The Ropes noted the episode will likely be taped the week before, either on December 18 along with that day's edition of SmackDown or some time between December 19 and Christmas Day.

If the New Year's Day episode of SmackDown will be live is currently unknown.
