WWE's future plans for the NXT Women's Championship have reportedly been revealed with it being suggested that Raquel Gonzalez will be the one to defeat Io Shirai for the title.

Having successfully defended the championship against Toni Storm on NXT this past Wednesday, Shirai was involved in a backstage segment with Gonzalez, in which the reigning champion told her fellow superstar that she wanted to fight her next.

Brian Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Radio is reporting that WWE have big plans for Gonzalez and it was decided a while ago that she would be the one to dethrone Shirai and take the NXT Women's Championship from her.

Alvarez said: "I don’t know who’s gonna win the title and plans change all the time in NXT. I heard months ago that Raquel is probably the one who is going to beat Io Shirai.”

Gonzalez made her NXT debut in February 2020 and has reportedly caught the eye of WWE officials. Io Shirai, meanwhile, has held the NXT Women's Championship since June, defeating Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley in a triple threat match.
