WWE have confirmed that a new NXT Champion will be crowned on the relaunch of NXT 2.0 on Tuesday 14 September.

Former champion Samoa Joe, having won the title from Karrion Kross in his first match in 18 months at NXT TakeOver: 36 in August, declared earlier this week that he would be relinquishing the Championship after being advised by WWE medical to step away for a short, but undetermined, period of time.

WWE had already announced a Fatal-4-Way Match for this week's NXT to determine the number one contender to Samoa Joe and his Title but, in the wake of the recent news, NXT General Manager William Regal has revealed the match will now be for the NXT Championship.

This week's NXT show will now see LA Knight, Pete Dunne, Tommaso Ciampa and Kyle O'Reilly compete to become the new NXT Championship.

The title match and subsequent crowning of a new champion comes in a week where WWE will present a new look and new vibe for NXT, from a remodelled Capitol Wrestling Center.
