Kyle O'Reilly has reportedly been caught by surprise at the news that his WWE contract is due to expire by the end of the year.

Reports have indicated that O'Reilly's deal with WWE is due to run out before the close of 2021, with Fightful reporting that they have confirmed PWInsider's initial news on the topic.

Fightful go on to say that O'Reilly has been caught a bit by surprise that his deal is due to expire so soon, after time was automatically added on to so many other WWE contracts. It is noted that Tommaso Ciampa is one of those names affected by this, for the time taking off due to injuries.

WWE, for their part, were not caught out by O'Reilly's deal expiring this year as they had double-checked every contract after the nasty surprises of Adam Cole's and Pete Dunne's respective contracts running out.

The 34-year-old was reportedly one of a few NXT talent who turned down a new WWE deal in late 2019 but WWE are interested in re-signing him, and have approached O'Reilly about penning a new contract with the company.
