Further details have emerged about the shooting involving former WWE Superstar Cain Velasquez.
Velasquez was arrested on an attempted murder charge on Monday, February 28 after a shooting at 3:14 pm in Morgan Hill, California. The 39-year-old was then booked into Santa Clara County Jail without bail.
In an update, Mercury News reported Velasquez was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder because he allegedly shot at a man who had been charged with molesting a close relative of the former UFC Heavyweight Champion at a home daycare.
The man charged was 43-year-old Harry Eugene Goularte, who lives at the home of the daycare business run by his mother. Goularte was charged with one felony count of a lewd and lascivious act with a child under the age of 14 and he was arraigned on Friday, although he was granted supervised release despite objections from the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office.
Three days after Goularte was arraigned, Velasquez allegedly began shooting at a car with Goularte, his stepfather and another person inside.
The stepfather was shot at least once and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Velasquez's arrest comes only a few months after he returned to professional wrestling in AAA, competing at the promotion's TripleMania Regia event. He previously performed for WWE from October 2019 until his release in April 2020 and only competed in one match, facing Brock Lesnar in Saudi Arabia for the WWE Title.
