Eric Young Thinks The System In WWE Is "Broken"

At Slammiversary 2020, Eric Young returned to IMPACT Wrestling in the main event as he looked to capture the world championship for a second time. EY was one of 37 Superstars released by WWE back on April 15 and his 90-day non-compete clause expired only days before the pay-per-view.

The former leader of SAnitY was a recent guest on Busted Open Radio and he discussed his time with the wrestling behemoth. Young admitted he enjoyed his run in NXT and said he worked well with Triple H, but it was a different story when he got to the main roster and described the system on Raw and SmackDown as "broken."

The IMPACT Wrestling star said: "The NXT part went great, was treated well. Hunter and me worked very closely on the development of SAnitY and the group and I really felt like I had a say in what went on. Obviously not final say, but was listened to and asked to contribute. And I mean I think the NXT run, at the time I mean SAnitY were one of the top acts in the whole company… Then we transition to the main roster and I mean, you and everyone knows how that went. That did not go well.

"And you know and people know sometimes you fall out of favour and its nothing that you did or didn't do. I never changed who I was and I'm not going to. That's not who I am, I'm not a political person. I never have been. That's probably a bit of a hindrance for my career is that I'm not political, I refuse to be political… Politics in wrestling I avoid as much as possible. I mean, there's politics in everything but we're just going to avoid it. And the truth is, you know, a bunch of guys that have left there have talked about this and we don't need to go on and on about it, but the system's broken. It's hard to get a word in. Even when you're doing nothing, it feels like you're just trying to fix people’s mistakes all day. There's no creativity, they want everyone to do things the same and be the same and bump the same and sell the same. And there's millions of rules…Those change daily and it's just really hard to understand what's going on and why it's going on.

"The system is flawed and I would say that to anyone there. I would say it to Vince himself. I'm definitely not the first person that he's made a mistake on and I won't be the last person that he's made a mistake on. I don't think its anything personal. Any time me and him were in a room together or we spoke he was always respectful. We had two pretty decently long conversations and I thought they went well and he understood where I was coming from, but I'm a man and I'm not gonna stand in a hallway for four hours to talk to him. I'm just not gonna do that and that could be wrong on my part, that could be stubborn on my part, but I'm a 40-year-old man and I'm not gonna wait in the hallway like a child to maybe get five minutes to talk to him. I said my piece to him, he seemed to be responsive to it and nothing ever come from it. So, I don't take it personally. He made a mistake, and as the leader of the company and the person that decides everything, it's a massive mistake. You have a three-hour television show and you can't find five minutes for Eric Young, your show is broken. It's as simple as that."
