Edge has had several world title reigns during his WWE career, having held the WWE Title four times and the World Heavyweight Championship seven times before he was forced to retire in 2011.

The Rated-R Superstar later came out of retirement in January 2020 and at 48-years-old, Edge doesn't believe his character needs another world title reign, admitting to Sports Illustrated he is focused on other things.

"I can't say that Edge needs it. When I look at the character, and I look at everything I accomplished with the character, what does one more mean? I don't know. Is it a cool, redemptive story? This guy had it pulled away from him, and now he's fighting to get it back. It has a bit of a feel-good, Rocky vibe to it. But if it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen," Edge began.

"I came back to do this again. Are my storylines compelling? Do people want to watch them? And am I competing at the same level or better than I was before? That is my focus. Mentally, I feel like I'm in a way better place in terms of telling stories than I was when I had to retire. That's really all that matters to me - how good are the matches, how good are the stories."

Edge has challenged for a world title since his return, twice facing Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship, first in a Triple Threat also including Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 37, before a singles match at Money In The Bank.

If Edge will have the chance to earn another world title shot at the Royal Rumble remains to be seen, but he will be in action at the pay-per-view when he teams with wife Beth Phoenix against The Miz and Maryse.
