Edge Comments On Criticism That His WWE WrestleMania 36 Match Was Too Long
It was the second-longest match in WrestleMania history...

On night two of WrestleMania 36, Edge competed in his first one on one match in nine years as he faced his former friend Randy Orton in a Last Man Standing match. Their battle ended up being the second-longest bout in WrestleMania history, only being eclipsed by the Iron Man match between Bret "The Hitman" Hart and Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 12. This resulted in Edge's return receiving somewhat of a mixed reaction as the match being presented as a fight has been praised, but its sheer length has drawn criticism, with some fans saying they were bored by the 18-minute mark.
Edge appeared on the latest episode of the After The Bell podcast and commented on the criticism. The Ultimate Opportunist said all the feedback he has received personally has been positive, and that Bret "The Hitman" Hart even called him after the match to say that he loved it. However, he did add that he thinks there is "a minuscule militia of malcontent" who will complain about everything in wrestling because they "enjoy not enjoying things."
The Rated-R Superstar said: "I've heard there's feedback that it was too long and it's this and it's that. Listen, all of the feedback I've gotten personally to myself or to my social media feeds has been all positive. When I have Bret Hart call me and tell me that he loved it because it looked like a fight, well I don't care what anybody else says from that point on because his opinion to me has more weight than absolutely everyone anywhere. Nobody's going to top his opinion to me and if he liked it, and he thought it was a fight, good, mission accomplished.
"Everyone's entitled to their opinion, it's wrestling. It's art, it's subjective. Whatever blows your hair back. But Randy and I have broad shoulders and we can weather the weight of a minuscule militia of malcontent who will just want to complain about everything. Complain about the length of a wrestling match during a pandemic, like really? Come on. But they're also the same people that are going to complain that Bill and Brock go for four minutes. So, I just think there's a segment of people that enjoy not enjoying things and dwell on negatives."
