Drew McIntyre has recalled his fear that Brock Lesnar might accidently eliminate himself from the 2020 Royal Rumble before he could get into the ring.

McIntyre was booked to go over strong at the 2020 Royal Rumble, being set as both the man to eliminate the then-dominant WWE Champion Lesnar from the match, before going on to win the entire Rumble and head to the main event of WrestleMania 36.

There was a heart-stopping moment for McIntyre, however, when he thought Lesnar would nearly take himself out of the match as he forced Keith lee and Braun Strowman over the top rope.

Lesnar's accidental elimination of himself would have forced an adjustment to the booking on the fly, and McIntyre is grateful things went as planned.

Writing in his new book, A Chosen Destiny, McIntyre said on the 2020 Royal Rumble: "In came Keith Lee and Braun Strowman, but they started to fight each other instead of Brock and he seized the chance to hurl them both over the ropes together. Watching backstage, that was a heart-stopping moment for me. When Brock went to take out Keith Lee and Braun Strowman, he grabbed them both around the legs and hoisted them over the ropes with such momentum that he nearly went over and eliminated himself.

"Imagine...There have been occasions when people accidentally got eliminated. Things have gone wrong, many times. Brock went right over the ropes with those two but saved himself and bounced himself back onto the canvas.

"The anticipation inside Minute Maid Park was reaching hysteria. Whoever eliminated Brock Lesnar was going to win over the fans big-time, and that person was due to be the sixteenth man in the ring: one Drew McIntyre. If Brock had eliminated himself, that would have stuffed my triumphant storyline!"
