During a recent appearance on Sunday Night's Main Event, Drew McIntyre revealed he would be open to stepping away from the WWE Title picture to kickstart a feud with former 3MB ally Jinder Mahal.

"I'm always looking for the best story. I think that's important. I've been chasing the title for a long time but I don't know if it would be the worst thing in the world if Drew McIntyre steps away from that for a minute and gets into a serious story that brings me back to the title," Drew said.

"Again, this is just me thinking out loud. I see Jinder Mahal looking pretty healthy right now. I don't see him currently in any story, he looks like he's ready to go to me. I'm hoping that Jinder and I get to do something down the line. Much like Sheamus and I, we have such a real history with each other and that's what it’s all about. The more real, the more people can invest because you're not just making up some story. We have such real history that people just don't know about. They know we were in 3MB together, they know we got fired on the same day together," he continued.

"Maybe Jinder's a little upset that when he won the world title three years before I did, people were not happy about it. They keep ranking it as one of the worst title reigns ever and call him an experiment and say these not so positive things about him. At the same time, mine was universally praised at the time and he's been out for a year and a half. Maybe he feels disrespected? I don't know. Maybe there's a lot of possibilities from a storyline perspective that Jinder Mahal would come after Drew McIntyre. I'm just putting it out into the universe but I really feel that we could do some cool stuff together because we have such history."

Talk of a Jinder Mahal-Drew McIntyre feud has swirled ever since The Scottish Warrior captured the WWE Title for the first time at WrestleMania 36. A rivalry between the two over the WWE Championship was also reportedly in the works, but plans had to be scrapped after Mahal underwent knee surgery.

They did face off in a six-man tag team match at WWE Superstar Spectacle back in January following Jinder's return, but the brief interaction failed to develop into a longer feud.
