Drew McIntyre and Sheamus have both admitted their disappointment that their story did not culminate in a match for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 37.

Sheamus and McIntyre began to slowly circle each other on Monday Night Raw in late 2020 following Sheamus' switch to the red brand in the draft, with the Irishman eventually attacking and turning his back on the Scotsman the night after the Royal Rumble.

While the duo would have a number of singles matches between February and April 2021, they were never for the WWE Title as McIntyre dropped the Championship at Elimination Chamber in February.

Both men, who are great friends, wish their rivalry on WWE Raw could have extended to April and seen them meet in front of fans at 'The Showcase Of The Immortals'.

In an exclusive clip from BT Sport’s What Went Down: Drew McIntyre and Sheamus, The Celtic Warrior said: "We were hoping this was gonna be at WrestleMania. That’s where we felt that the feud should basically climax – it should come to an end at WrestleMania.

"I fought as hard as I could, we both did, to make that happen. But you can only do what you can do…"

McIntyre agreed with Sheamus, adding: "If you watch the pre-match video, you see that it was really WrestleMania worthy – just the story that we have, the real story.

"We can go back around and there’s next year’s WrestleMania – maybe when we get the fans back it’ll be new again. But it was certainly disappointing we didn’t get to do it at ‘Mania."
