Drake Maverick

Since his release from WWE, Drake Maverick (Rockstar Spud) has won the hearts of fans around the world. In the hours after he was let go, Spud posted a heartfelt video to social media in which he reacted to his release. This received an enormous reaction online, and support for Maverick has only increased in the past few days as he has posted videos of himself coming to the ring to Livin' On A Prayer by Bon Jovi.

Now, Drake Maverick is the man fans want to see crowned the Interim NXT Cruiserweight Champion. They seemingly won't get their wish, however, as the former AOP manager was defeated by Jake Atlas on last night's episode of NXT.

Spud almost picked up the victory early into the match after hitting Atlas with the Flying Elbow, but the former Pro Championship Wrestling star managed to kick out at two.

Then, after both Superstars battled back and forth, the beginning of the finish came when Maverick tried to connect with a Hurricanrana from the top rope. However, Atlas managed to get his hands up and block the move, causing the former IMPACT Wrestling star to plummet to the mat. As Spud staggered to his feet, Jake walked across the top rope and delivered a vicious Cartwheel DDT. He then covered his opponent for the 1-2-3.

With this loss, Drake Maverick faces an uphill battle to advance from Group A as he now must defeat Kushida and Tony Nese to remain in contention.
