Former WWE Tag Team Champion Davey Boy Smith Jr. is believed to be returning to WWE in an active capacity.

It was revealed recently that Smith Jr. would be inducting his father the late British Bulldog into the WWE Hall of Fame during WrestleMania weekend, and it is now believed he will be returning to WWE full-time in an in-ring role.

Speaking to The Metro, Smith Jr. revealed COVID-19 is to blame for having not returned already:

“There’s been quite a bit of interest and a little bit of back and forth talk with myself and the company. ‘I think that the plan – or what they were hoping – was for me to come to NXT UK. But unfortunately right now because of Covid, those doors are kind of locked, we’ll see.

“There has been interest in me going to NXT down here in Orlando. I live down here in Tampa, Florida, so I’ve just been feeling things out, trying to get a lay of the land, so to speak. ‘We’re discussing and talking. I can’t exactly say anything for sure, but there’ve been talks.

“There’s a hell of a lot of talent down there like [Karrion] Kross, [Tim] Thatcher, Finn Bálor who I’ve wrestled in New Japan Pro Wrestling before. We’re just gonna have to wait and see what’s the best choice.”

Smith Jr’s return to WWE has been speculated on for some time now, having initially left the company in 2011. Since then Smith Jr. enjoyed a run in New Japan Pro Wrestling, teaming with Lance Archer as The Killer Elite Squad as part of Minoru Suzuki’s Suzuki-Gun stable. He also made appearances for Pro Wrestling NOAH, and MLW, amongst others.
