Damian Priest has moved to clarify his time away from WWE following WrestleMania Backlash.
Priest was not seen on WWE television for a number of weeks following WWE's pay-per-view in May, where the Archer Of Infamy defeated The Miz in a Zombie Lumberjack Match.
Speculation and reports suggested that Priest was off television to recover from a back injury but the man himself says his time away was simply to take stock of the WWE Monday Night Raw roster and decide on his next target.
Speaking with Wrestling Inc, Priest said: “Well, training is always a part of [taking time off]. Then it was a matter of ‘What’s next?’ You know, I have had these moments. I had WrestleMania, I had WrestleMania Backlash, what now? What’s next?
"And everyone I could’ve been laser focused on was involved with someone. So, it was kind of a stand back and see what bullseye I’m going to aim at, so to speak.
"So, it was more so that. It was more waiting and biding my time to see where I get a big increase, to see how I can get my next moment. And here we are."
Priest defeated Sheamus to claim the United States Championship at WWE SummerSlam on Saturday.
