Could The Rock be in singles action at WrestleMania 40 after all?

The Rock was originally scheduled to challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 40 after Cody Rhodes stepped aside for Dwayne Johnson on the February 2 episode of Friday Night SmackDown. Cody changed his mind one week later, though, and he will face Roman Reigns at Mania, a decision that resulted in Johnson slapping Cody after Rhodes told Roman Reigns his family would be ashamed of him.

The Rock has since fully turned heel and joined The Bloodline, continuing the programme with Rhodes. That programme entered its next chapter as Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes were the guests on the Grayson Waller Effect at Elimination Chamber.

As the segment continued, Rhodes suddenly announced his schedule was wide open before he faces Roman Reigns and he challenged The Rock to a singles match, any time, anywhere. Seth Rollins then halted Cody, telling him it was time to "cut the head off the snake" and he will be in Cody's corner if The Rock accepts Cody's challenge.

The segment came to an end in fan-friendly fashion as Austin Theory performed The Rock's trademark catchphrases before he was drilled into a Grayson Waller Effect sign by Rollins while asking if the fans could smell what he is cooking. A Cody Cutter and Stomp later with Grayson Waller not getting involved ended the segment with the babyfaces on top.

Dwayne Johnson is scheduled to be on the March 1 episode of SmackDown so he is likely to respond to Cody's challenge then. Should he accept, it would be The Rock's first WWE match since a six-second win over Erick Rowan at 2016's WrestleMania 32.
