With the ‘Triple H era' of WWE beginning, questions have been asked about former WWE stars who could return to the company following Vince McMahon’s exit. At SummerSlam we saw the return of Dakota Kai, whilst Io Shirai made her main roster debut amongst speculation about her future, but talk always turns to Johnny Gargano.

Gargano left NXT in December 2021 after his contract expired, and his name is continually linked with a WWE return. Now, former tag partner and rival Ciampa has given his thoughts on the matter, saying the following to Wrestling Inc.’s Nick Hausman:

“The door was always open. Johnny left so he could go be a dad… for Johnny, it was like, ‘Oh, I have baby Quill, and I have to [wrestle] full-time or I take a break,’ and he just took a break. So I don’t know, I think the chances of him returning were always really good… maybe they’re better now, but regardless, I think he’s definitely going to come back to wrestling. He’s in shape, he still loves it. I’m sure he’s still probably one of the best in the world right now. So for him, it’s just a matter of time,” said Ciampa

Since his WWE/NXT exit, Gargano has made no in-person appearances for any major wrestling company, with a pre-recorded tribute to Alex Shelley’s career during a recent episode of IMPACT Wrestling being his only notable appearance outside of WWE.
