On the March 23, 2014 episode of Monday Night Raw, Christian was victorious in a Fatal 4-Way match against Alberto Del Rio, Dolph Ziggler, and Sheamus to determine the number one contender for the Intercontinental Championship. Christian did not get to challenge for the title, however, as he suffered a concussion during the bout and was forced to retire from wrestling soon after.

Christian's former tag team partner Edge returned to the ring at the Royal Rumble after a nine-year absence, which prompted a fan to ask Captain Charisma on Booker T's Hall Of Fame podcast if he had thought about trying to get cleared for an in-ring return.

The former World Heavyweight Champion told Booker T that he doesn't see himself coming back as a WWE Superstar because his concussion issues mean he is medically disqualified. Christian also admitted he is "content" with what he accomplished during his career and he achieved everything he set out to do with the exception of main eventing WrestleMania.

Christian said: "It's one of those things, it's a completely different injury. I'm pretty content with all that I've accomplished in WWE. I pretty much accomplished everything I ever wanted to do except main event WrestleMania and, lets be honest, how many people actually get a chance to do that?

"I'm 46-years-old and I had some concussion issues. I don't see it happening, I'm medically disqualified. I'm just not sure how I would ever get cleared."
