Throughout 2019, Brodie Lee, then Luke Harper, was used rarely on WWE TV. He only wrestled in four matches and two of those were Battle Royals at WrestleMania 35 and Crown Jewel. While he enjoyed a brief reunion with Erick Rowan in October, once Big Red was drafted to Raw the tag team was separated again and Lee was finally granted his release in December 2019.

Big Rig appeared on the most recent episode of Talk Is Jericho and discussed his tumultuous 2019. Brodie explained that before WrestleMania 35, he texted Vince McMahon asking if he had any plans for him as he was unhappy about just being sat at home. As a result of this, Vince added him to the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal and told him he would have a storyline for him after The Showcase Of The Immortals.

WWE Creative contacted the former SmackDown Tag Team Champion soon after and told him he would be returning to TV after Mania as Sami Zayn's bodyguard. However, only two days later, Lee was told the storyline had been scrapped and he subsequently asked for his release from the company.

The Exalted One said: "I was going to be Sami Zayn's heater and I was like, you know what, I go ‘f**k man, that's exactly what I don't want to do.' That's what I've done my entire career, I don't want to do that anymore. I want to just go do my thing, but you know what, I'm gonna make it work, let's figure it out and go from there. And two days later I was supposed to debut on SmackDown, I believe after Mania, and then it got cancelled. 'Oh, we're not doing it.' And I'm like 'Okay that's it.'"
