Former WWE star Billy Jack Haynes will stand trial for the murder of his wife in April.
The 70-year-old is accused of shooting and killing 85-year-old Janette Becraft on February 8. Officers responded to the shooting at their home in the Lents neighbourhood in Portland, Oregon, and Haynes was arrested after a two-hour standoff.
Haynes has been charged with second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon. His trial is scheduled for April 11.
It was claimed by neighbours that Becraft suffered from dementia and had been in decline leading up to the shooting. Known locally as Billy and Jan, neighbours have said the couple were well-liked within the community and the incident came as a shock.
Haynes was a mainstay in the Portland area for most of his in-ring career, though he is most famous for his run with WWE in the mid-to-late 1980s. He famously feuded with Hercules over the full Nelson finishing move, which resulted in a match between the two at WrestleMania III.
Haynes also had a brief run in WCW (as Black Blood) in 1991 and last wrestled for the Memphis-based USWA before retiring in 1996.
