The Universal Championship match between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar at WWE Day 1 is reportedly set to have a 'big finish' that is designed to leave fans desperate to see another match between the two.

Reigns will once again defend the Universal Championship against Lesnar at WWE's newest pay-per-view event on Saturday 1 January 2022. Reports have indicated that WWE have booked the high-profile match to immediately establish Day 1 as one of the company's biggest pay-per-view events.

Reigns and Lesnar previously met at Crown Jewel 2021 and are reportedly set for the WrestleMania 38 main event. According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the plan is for the two SmackDown stars to clash again at the 2022 'Showcase Of The Immortals'.

WWE, per Meltzer's report, are intent on getting there by having the Reigns versus Lesnar match at Day 1 end with such a 'big finish' that fans will be clamouring for a rematch between the Tribal Chief and the Beast.

The idea is to then make those same fans wait another three months, until WrestleMania 38, until the two lock up again.
