Becky Lynch reportedly made a request to WWE to come back as a heel character upon her return to the promotion.

Lynch made her shocking return at WWE SummerSlam 2021 as a last-minute replacement for Sasha Banks in the SmackDown Women's Championship match. Having removed Carmella from the equation, The Man challenged Bianca Belair before punching her, hitting the Man-Handle Slam and pinning her to win the Title in 27 seconds.

The elation at seeing Lynch return was quickly lost in place of disappointment at the quick squash of Belair, leading to some fans booing the new SmackDown Women's Champion.

Reports have indicated that Lynch will be booked as a top heel on the blue brand going forward, and Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has corroborated those reports, and learned that it was Lynch herself that requested the switch in character.

Lynch was booked as one of WWE's top faces - and stars altogether - throughout 2019 and into early 2020, after main eventing WrestleMania 35 and holding the Raw Women's Championship for over a year.

The Man's 18-month hot-streak actually originated from a failed attempt to turn her heel back at SummerSlam 2018, with Lynch attacking Charlotte Flair.
