REVEALED: Why Mercedes Moné & AEW's Working Plans Ceased To Exist
Why Mercedes Moné and AEW aren't working together
Dec 19, 2023
Mercedes Moné looked to be AEW-bound earlier this year with reports noting following her appearance at AEW All In that there were working plans for the former Sasha Banks and All Elite Wrestling to do something together. Those plans have since seemingly collapsed, though, with Fightful Select reporting the tentative plans to work together were no longer active as of the beginning of December.
Those plans fell apart, Fightful Select reported, as the two sides were far apart on terms. It is unknown if the two sides being far apart was over schedule, financial terms, or booking. This doesn't necessarily mean the door is closed between AEW and Moné altogether, though.
This has immediately fuelled speculation that Moné could be returning to WWE but Fightful noted they have not been informed about any active talks between the two sides. Moné is currently a free agent and WWE are planning to renew talks with multiple free agents in the new year but there is no word on if Moné is on that list.
WWE creative have not been told to produce creative plans for Moné so this would suggest no deal is close between the two parties. WWE creative are typically told to prepare for a talent's return, although that was not the case with CM Punk due to how secret talks were.
Moné previously spent several years with WWE but left the organisation at some point in 2022 after walking out of a taping of Monday Night Raw in May of that year. She debuted in New Japan Pro-Wrestling in January 2023 and went on to win the IWGP Women's Championship. Moné sustained a serious injury in May, though, and has been out of action ever since. She recently began training for an in-ring return.
