Major League Wrestling tried to convince a former ECW World Champion to make an in-ring return.
According to PWInsider Elite, MLW reached out to Mikey Whipwreck to see if he was interested in coming out of retirement as a surprise entrant in the Battle Riot at Battle Riot V on Saturday, April 8. Whipwreck ultimately didn't take up the offer, though. There were still some surprise entrants in the match, including Ricardo Rodriguez, Gene Snitsky, and Duke "The Dumpster" Droese.
Mikey Whipwreck is most famous for his two runs in Extreme Championship Wrestling from 1994 until 1998, and 1999 until the promotion folded in 2001. He is an ECW Triple Crown Champion, having held the ECW World Heavyweight Title, ECW World Television Championship, and the ECW World Tag Team Titles with Cactus Jack and Tajiri.
Whipwreck is the youngest ECW World Heavyweight Champion in history, having held the gold for 42 days in late 1995 at 22-years-old. Whipwreck also had a short run in WCW in 1999.
Following the closure of ECW, Whipwreck retired in October 2001 but returned to the ring in 2003. He then largely performed on the New York independent scene before retiring in 2015. That retirement didn't last, though, and he went on to have nine more matches between 2018 and 2020. His last match as it stands was in February 2020 for New York Wrestling Connection.
