On last week's episode of AEW: Dynamite, Chris Jericho challenged Orange Cassidy to a Mimosa Mayhem match at All Out 2020, Eddie Kingston formed a new faction with The Lucha Brothers and The Butcher & The Blade, and Ivelisse and Diamante defeated The Nightmare Sisters to win the AEW Tag Team Cup Tournament: The Deadly Draw.

In the main event, Cody defended the TNT Championship for the ninth time against Brodie Lee. It proved to be one title defence too many, however, as The Exalted One squashed the champion in just over three minutes. Lee then continued the beating after the bell and tossed The American Nightmare to the floor while he was receiving medical attention.

Having taken such a devastating beating, Cody is expected to be off TV for "an extended period" to sell the injuries he suffered, according to Mike Johnson of PWInsider. Johnson noted the former TNT Champion could be taking some time off so he can be involved in Stephen Amell's new TV series Heels, which is set to begin production soon. Cody previously told Amell he was willing to help him with the new show.

The American Nightmare's official AEW status will be revealed on Thursday as the young promotion announced they will provide an update on his condition on Dynamite.
